Looking at 2001ES 300 need advice
Hello all,
I am looking at a 2001 es 300. The dealer wants 3950 for it after I took it to a mechanic and found out it needed a new radiator, alternator, in front engine mount. The estimated cost of repair is 900.should I ask him to go a little bit lower on the price since I will have to shell out an extra 900 for repair? or is the car even worth buying? It does ride nice and cosmetically it seems in fair condition. any ideas from anyone would be great. Thanks in advance.

I would say that really depends on the condition of the rest of the car, and what options it has. $3950 doesn't seem like a bad price if it is in nice condition. How does the interior look? What about paint / are the headlights nice or are they faded? What about miles / rust? (I see you're in Arizona so rust hopefully won't be an issue over there). 2000 and 2001 seem to be the most desirable years of the 3rd gen ES, and there are other members on here who have these cars and would probably answer your questions with some more detail. Main thing is to make sure there is no sludge in the engine (either if it has all oil change records included or have the dealer pull the front valve cover and show you). Post some pics! Also is it a Lexus dealer or an independent shop selling this?

Thank you for the response. Cosmetically it looks good - save a few very minor things. The paint is in good condition and the interior has minimal issues. I did take it to my mechanic and he says it looks good other than the repairs that need to be done. I will also do an oil change - it is due for one. This is and independent used car dealer and I am going to try and talk him down to $3700
Don't be afraid to walk away.
There are many other ES in the sea, and this isn't a killer deal that you're going to miss out on.
