Steering issues?
Well, it looks like my 97 ES300 may be acting up. I seem to require a lot more steering effort to turn the wheel to the left versus the right. Anyone know what may be the cause of this? Thanks!

It is more noticeable when cold. After the car has warmed up a bit, it's definitely better, but still requires a little more effort to turn left than right. I'm basically clueless when it comes to the mechanicals of a car, hence the need to consult with you folks.

it might be the steering rack
a very expensive part as i think you also have variable power steering as i do on my 94
you might want to get a fluid flush it uses auto tranny fluid not power steering fluid
it also runs your fan for the rad
a though might be just to check if the fan starts moving a bit when the car is started cold
if not there may be a blockage in one of the vavles if not mechanical damage
a fluid flush is the best start
i don't think it is a fluid level problem as it is only in one direction of turning
good luck

don't worry it isn't stupidity
not all of us went to college as an automotive technition like me
( the reason i can't spell )
the fluid is supposed to be red but normal wear and tear will make it dark brown -black lookingshouldn't really have an odour
with tranny fluid in a transmission if clutches burn it does end up smelling burnt

Well, I checked the power steering fluid. It is currenlty a light brown color. Defintely not dark at all. If this isn't a cause, I guess it's time for a trip to the dealer?
