I'm about to replace my Michelin MXV4's with a new set of tires. While I'm happy with the way they've performed, I like to look around and see if there are better options (at better prices).
I've heard mixed reviews on the Michelin MXV4 Plus tires and Dunlop SP5000s. I remember having very good luck with Yokohama tires when I had an 85 Camry, so was also going to look at their V-rated models.
I don't ride the card hard or fast and don't drive in snow (but do drive in rain!). What is everyone's opionion of the tires they are using? How much tread life have you gotten from them? How quiet are they? Would you buy them again?
Thanks in advance!

I've been in florida downpours. If I moved to FL, the tire I would switch to is the Goodyear Aquatred III.
Should be around $100 each and you should easily get 50k mi. on a set. I had a set of Aquatred (1st generation) and was totally thrilled by them.
My '02 Es came with Bridgestone Potenza 092. they are OK, but I won't be staying with them.

I replaced my MXV4's 2k mi ago with the Dunlop SP Sport 5000's (VR). There have been a few downpours here in LA the past month, and I've been impressed with their performance. I switched to the Lexus as a daily driver from my '93 Audi 100, and there unfortunately is a big difference in suspension/handling ability between the two.
On my Audi I have (and both cars are on their stock 15" rims) the Yoko AVS dB (VR) for the past 25k mi and have really enjoyed them with the Bilstein Sports that were put on at the same time.
I will tell you this -- and I can't tell you if it is the tire or not -- but in the rain the Lexus feels "looser" than the Audi does (although this really only shows itself at high speeds on a closed road......) Daily driving, the SP Sport 5000's are a good tire, the handling is improved over the MXV4's (which were getting pretty thin as well). I have heard some complaints of the AVS dB's having soft sidewalls and some warping, but it appears that there is now an AVS dB S2...maybe this new version addresses that.
I have a friend in W Palm Beach, and he's told me all about the afternoon "showers"...

I recommend Michelin Pilot XGT H4 over the Energy MXV4's.

I'm not happy with mine....but then again you just might get a little less snow in FL than I do!

I was also very satisfied with the Dunlop SP5000. I'd reccommend it to anyone.
Mr_Mollari- I have a '96 Audi A6 quattro, which is basically the same car as your 100S, quattro aside. I can't comment on rain performance due to FWD vs AWD, but in the dry pavement I agree that the ES300 feels a lot less capable in the corners than the Audi does. My dad drove a FWD '92 100 a long time ago, and I remember him saying that the car was much tighter and stable than the ES300, in all road conditions. It's a trade-off I guess. The ES300 has a much better ride than the Audi, so it's no surprise that it's handling suffers.

i just got my tires replaced on my 98 es with michelin pilot xgt h4 and i must say they are NICE! grip is plentiful when cornering on dry pavement but im scared to overload the tires. when the blizzard hit, the snow traction was better than before. i could take my car out the driveway w/ 2 inches of snow with no problem. ive seen some comments stating how they wear out so quickly, like around 24k miles or less. i hope this doesnt happen to me! i like the little checkered flag on the sidewalls, thats what u get for $600. my dad brought it to sears and it cost around $600 for camber adjustment, wheel balancing, etc. i was like "what the !@#$.. DAYAM!" he said replacing the tires with the original michelin energy would cost around $800! and i was like "oh... ok." im guessing for $600, the tires were installed the right way so wouldnt experience excessive tire wear.
