Emblem removal question for 95-96 owners
#2
Not Sure But...
I Recently took my front emblem off because I primered the hood black (ya looks pretty tacky right now but my paint jobs coming soon). Well behind that was as you expected double sided sticky crap but also there is three holes one to keep it centered and the other two to keep it from turning( basically the holes are so it stays!!). Im pretty sure thats how it would be all around with the (lexus and the es300) emblems since it is on the sheet metal.

Double sided. Only the L should have the holes.

anyway, once you DO get any of the emblems off, on a 95-96, it's nearly impossible to cleanly take off the remnants of the adhesive w/o severe hand work or pro help. BTW- $900 quote to fill up my holes (lol!), but this was from a very reputable, quality body shop.

Best advice I can come up w/ is use a hair dryer to heat it up, then carefully use a cutter/knife of some sort, and just keep rubbing til you're satisfied. it almost feels like you're gonna take some of the paint off, which is why you start to freak and take it easy. It's very important to fully treat the paint after this.

Thanks..
Well, the residue I have is HARD! I did some rubbing compound on it eariler, and it wouldn't budge. Chris (AusLex300) has the same year as mine, and he had no problems with paint thinner, so I will try that later this afternoon when I get some. Wish me luck.

If Lexus would get rid of this double-sided sticky and three-hole crap and use a proper stand-up hood ornament like a luxury car SHOULD have (A.K.A. De Ville, Buick Park Avenue, Jaguar XJ, etc.....) we wouldn't have these problems....and the cars would look a whole lot better.
