Question Rear Window Shade

I am looking for the rear window shade for my 2003 Lexus ES300. It is an accessory from dealer. Is there any online shop that will sell this shade or I have to get it from dealer. Dealer in Boston refuse to just sell the part. They asked to install it for me for $2xx. I would like to get the part and do it myself.

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

I assume at that price that it's the motorized factory shade found on the highest option packages. Is the car pre-wired for the shade, or do wires have to be run from the back to the console, etc?

Yes, it is the motorized rear window shade. The car is pre-wired for it.

The car is pre-harnessed for it. You will find the harness under the wood trim that goes around the shift.
Check to see if there is a fuse in location #47. You need a 15 amp. if it is not there.
You will also need the actual switch and need to replace the wood trim around your shift to accomodate the switch if you use the pre-installed harness.

It may be a warranty issue that is causing the hesitation with the dealer. Check to see if they install it, then does it fall under the 4 year warranty. If it is covered if they install it, then pay the money and have them do it.
If you really want to have it, speak with the parts manager. I find it hard to believe they won't sell you an accessory (installed or not). Can I guess the dealer......tell me it wasn't Lexus of Norwood.

Last option would be to call several different dealers, see if a Toyota dealer can get it for you.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am in Sharon. I emailed the dealer recommended by this forum : Sewell.com. Their response was that the shade itself costed about $970 and need a Lexus tech. to install it. It didn't look like that I would get any Internet discount if I order this part form them. I personally think that this accessory must come with instruction. Since the car is prewired, I should be able to do it myself. For a new car, this is an $210 dollars option.
