2001 es300 Tranny locking up
Ok so I have and ES300 and the Transmission is locking up..when I drop it down to reverse I can feel it go into gear, but it wont budge..at first it felt like the ebrake was on,but not the case...when I put it into drive, the car will move 50-60 feet and then will almost lockup to almost a stop then will go another 50-60 feet and "lockup" again....will the TC lockup solenoid cause this /Or do I have bigger problems..was working fine up to this point..no CEL on either...Thanks for any help...

put the car in neutral, and check to make sure each wheel turns freely when jacked up. Including the back ones.
Its probably the trans, which is probably ruined. But at least you'll know it isn't the brakes this way.

Those transmissions do post a trouble code. However. You need a high end OBD2 scanner to retrieve such codes.
Your best bet is a transmission shop, a dealer or even some independent garages They can diagnose the problem using their specialized scanner.
Good luck

Ok thanks..the car has 180k..to have it towed to the shop and diagnosed will be around $300..and thats without any repairs..I was hoping someone has had same issue and could tell me if the lock up or shift solenoids are the problem..though I am willing to drop the pan and replace the solenoids.I dont think the car is worth any more than that..I find it hard to believe I am the only one that has had these exact symptoms..I extensively search the web and here and havent come up with anything :/ also, there is no reputable tranny shops in or around Rochester NY

locking up trans
Check to see if you are missing a brake caliper mounting bolt. Usually it wont rooll backwards but will fwd if it is a top bolt.
I have a trans that is locked up and I am thinking it is the planetary gear that is gone bad.
