2001 es300- Trunk relase doesn't work.
Hey folks. 2001 es 300. When I push the trunk release button on the inside of the car it doesn't work and makes a clicking sound twice. The sound comes from some where near the radio. The valet button in the glove box is in the correct position. If I engage the valet button the clicking sound stops but the trunk obviously doesn't open. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED! I did notice other threads with the same issue but with no resolve.

Double check the fuse for the mechanism. If it looks good it could be a more serious wiring/electrical issue.

Sometimes the electrical wire that goes to the latch in the trunk breaks at the trunk hinge. This is where it's routed.
Its caused by opening and closing the trunk thousands of times over the years.
Use a VOM meter to check for power at the latch. If all fuses are Ok, this is where I'll check next.
Also, does your fuel door open when you press its release button on the dash?

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I do not have a remote for this car. The fuel tanks release door button is working fine. Is there a fuse specifically for the trunk release???? I can not find a fuse panel inside the car. The only fuse box I found is under the hood and there was no fuse for trunk release. Is there a fuse box inside the car that I am missing? I will also check wiring at trunk latch. ONCE AGAIN, THANKS FOR THEH REPLIES!!!

There is a fuse box behind the coin holder inside the car. You'll need to pull out the coin holder to access it. Requires a bit of force and squeezing the sides to pull it out. The owners manual explains how to remove the coin holder in detail.
However, since your Fuel door release works, I doubt its a fuse problem The same fuse serves both the trunk and fuel door release, but check anyways.
As I suggested in my earlier reply, check the wire where it routes at the trunk hinge. That's where they usually break
And of course check for voltage at the latch, as well as the trunk lock-out switch in the glove compartment.

This is a bit of a long shot but my ES300 has a trunk open canceler thing in the glove box. Like, if you push that button, then none of the other buttons or the remote open the trunk. It's right next to the cd changer.
Maybe you accidentally pushed that button.

Trunk release does not work
I have made sure the trunk release inside glove box is in the correct position. I have located fuse panel by removing coin box. There is no fuse labeled trunk release or fuel door release. I enclosed a photo of the label. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated. I checked the wire at the latch and it seemed fine. Not sure how to check for voltage but I attached a photo of my diagnostic tools. Again, thanks for any help
