Yes it will automatically switch over to the camera when you put your car in reverse. The camera gets its power from the reverse light so they're linked together.
I'd like to point out that if possible, always get a camera with a glass lens. Those with a plastic lens will fog up in a year or less and be rendered useless.

Just to follow up on the glass versus plastic lens issue that you pointed out, did you confirm whether the one you ordered met you preference for glass? Just curious.

It didn't say but for $15.64, I'm not going to complain. If it lasts a year I'll happily replace it when it fogs up.
I had a nice dashcam I paid $175 for that had a plastic lens that fogged up a little over a year after I bought it. For the price I expected better.
I replaced it with one that advertised a glass lens and after a year it's still crystal clear.
I am a bit lost with the camera connection. Once I install the camera, I should cut the reverse light wires in the back of the trunk and add camera power in parallel, correct?
Where do you actually plug the yellow video cable in?
I installed a camera on my 94 ES. I tapped the camera power line into the positive line of the reverse lights. That way the camera turns on automatically when I shift into reverse. Seems to work well this way.
My car is 2004 lexus ES330, GPS navigation, I want to install backup camera, I bought a camera and harness. The camera gets its power from the reverse light but I don't know where reverse signal wire on back of factory GPS Navigation, Please help show me where it is and what is color, thank you!
I am doing the same upgrade and no camera. Power source I used was off the trunk reverse light. The adapter (off eBay) only plugged into one spot on the back of the nav unit. I am rechecking the power tie-in connection for camera. Question: do you happen to remember which wire you tied in for power and what type of tie-in connection did you use. Many thanks.
