Hi there,

My stock radio has been gradually getting worse over the last year or so. Sometimes it runs normally for days, other times it pops and runs at half volume and is muffled, other times one channel pops in and out, and other times the sound is very scratchy. It happens with the radio, tape deck, and CD player.

I took the unit out and inspected it. Other than one of the RCA plugs being cracked (I don't know if this goes to the CD player or tape deck), everything looked fine. I sprayed all the plugs and connectors with contact cleaner and ensured everything was connected firmly. After a day, the problem resumed. Now the problem is almost constant and I can't listen to the radio or music at all!

My gut tells me that there is something wrong with the amplifier and not the speakers, but I'm not sure. I'd like to repair what I have if I can as replacement units are in the $300 range on Ebay. I haven't found any info to help me in my searches so I figured I'd post here and hopefully someone could give me some assistance.

There are no issues with the radio LCD, clock, etc. The only other radio related issue is that sometimes when I turn on the CD feature it tries to access a 7th or 8th disc and makes a loud pop. I have to turn the radio on and off several times and press the disc change button until it gets to discs 1-5. I don't know why this happens as the stock player has a 5 disc capacity.
