Default Replaced fuel pump, now gas gauge doesn't work

Hey everyone, just replaced my fuel pump from a friends 2000 Toyota Avalon to my 99 lexus es300 and now my gas gauge doesn't work. The needle is dropped all the way down. I plan on buying the oem fuel pump for my car but just in case this isn't the problem, what else could it be?

I would think there is a sending unit of some kind that communicates with the gauges. Maybe that is a separate piece that is not the same as what is from the Avalon.

this is definitely the fuel sending unit.

I have not seen what it looks like on the ES300/Avalon, but on a Honda the fuel sending unit is attached to the fuel pump housing that gets submerged into the tank.

The fuel sender usually has a metal arm with a "float" which on the end of it makes contact with a circuit board that tells the gauge what the fuel level is.

I would double check your connections or the fuel sender from the avalon could be incompatible or broken.

Yup, I would double check connections and go back and see if everything was hooked up correctly. Sounds like it should work.

It must be incompatible then. Because the Avalon gas gauge works just fine as well. Ill go back and double check though. Thanks everyone.
