I had a strange problem crop up today. Last night I took out the dome light bulb to check the type to replace it. I verified voltage on the clips for the light with a voltmeter and it was there. No problem replace the bulb.

This morning I found that a number of things were not working:
Trunk Release
Visor garage door control
Dome Lights
Dash Clock
Power door locks (when ignition is off, they work when the ignition is on)
Trunk Light

The fuel release *is* working which is on the same fuse as the trunk release. I pulled the "door" 25 Amp fuse and it looked good. I also verified that pulling it caused the fuel release to stop working. So, that fuse is good.

Any idea what could be common with the above items? Any other fuses which could cause that combination of failures? I can't figure out how what I was doing with the dome light could cause all that to fail but the timing is too much of a coincidence.

This is a 2000 ES300

You didn't accidentally short out the bulb socket while testing the voltage did you?

I ran through just that thought in my head trying to think if there was anything I did wrong with that. I don't recall crossing the probes and certainly did not get any sparks I would attribute to a direct short like that. If that was the case I would have expected to see the fuse blown. So...while anything is possible I do not believe that I shorted the socket.

Check the socket to make sure. Check the 7.5amp DOME fuse under the hood fuse itself is near the battery.

IF you accidentally had your voltmeter set to read amps it would short out the circuit and blow the fuse.

We have a winner, it was the 7.5 amp fuse under the hood. I had stopped looking for other fuses beyond the interior panel. I swapped in another fuse to test until I can get some more 7.5's and everything that wasn't working started working. I had the volt meter set on volts but obviously I bumbled something and blew the fuse. Thanks for pointing me at the correct fuse.

Glad you got it sorted that fuse is easy to blow since it is relatively low amperage.

Yeah, apparently it is :-( It was the mix of stuff that had gone that had me confused along with the labeling of the interior panel making me think some of the stuff that was out was routed through the interior fuses. Appreciate the quick help! Saved me an embarrassing trip to the shop.
