I just went 130Mph in the ES and it's slow as dog in 5th gear
Was aiming for 140 but it seems like it would take years to get there - I'd probably get pulled over before I peg the needle or hit the govener (even at 2am).
This 3VZ just doesn't have any top end.
At least it felt really stable at that speed.

Folks, please don't try this at home, away from home, or anywhere. But if you do, we ain't responsible for whatever happens!
hey where in socal did you hit 130?

I've done 125 on the 60 freeway eastbound on the wide open 4 lane concrete section going into Riverside. This was really in the late night when there were no cars around.

I did 130 racing my friend w/ an LS400 - which btw, he pulls on me ever so slightly from a 75 roll, on the 10 inbetween vermont and the 5 @ around 2am. We were heading southbound and I later heard it was police land so i will not be in that area anymore. Not bad for a daily driver though...
The 60 is also nice

Maybe somebody can catch me up on my metric conversions... but isn't 240 km/h just over 150 miles per hour?
If so... unless you have some SERIOUS mods (like nitrous, S/C, etc..), you either seriously misread your speedo, you have a speedo calibration issue, or you're full of it.
My 300 horsepower 343 pound of torque (dyno'd) 1994 Z28 Camaro wouldn't even go past 154 MPH.. and my friend's supercharged 1994 Mustang Cobra wouldn't even quite touch 160.
Now how is a high 16 second 1/4-mile 0-60 in mid 8 seconds 190-200 horsepower 4-door lexus going to be tagging right along with those cars on the top end?

you were SOUTHBOUND on the 10?? which way is that?? there's po-po's almost everywhere in socal freeways, watch out! getting caught at 130 is instant license suspension!

140mph is more realistic, we have had threads like this before. And please don't use nitrous in the top end folks (not that it would increase your top speed anyways....)

threxx - That's what I'm wondering about..
My LS took quite a while to reach 150. It was actually about 149.
Peak power in these cars is at a certain RPM range (of course)..when you're going that fast you're not going to produce any more power.
Then you have terminal velocity..wind drag, tire drag..
Since that car is using km/h maybe there is no speed limiter. I think you could do 150 in an ES, but it would take a looong time and most likely would have to be downhill or something.

A lot of people seem to be pushing their ES300's to the limit.....just be careful.
I was doggin' it out with 4 other friends one Friday night...friends were driving the following cars:
Friend 1: 2000 BMW 540i auto
Friend 2: 2002 Acura RSX type-S
Friend 3: 2001 Mercury Cougar
Friend 4: 2002 Subaru WRX
So as you see, minus the Cougar and my ES300, these are competent high speed cars. We were doing about 70-75, then all of a sudden friend 3 (who was at the tail end of the pack at the time), punches the gas and blows by everyone.
Naturally, we were all riled up, and within a matter of seconds we were all pushing 115+. Friends 1 and 4 passed up friend 3, and then things got dirty. Friend 1 cut off friend 4, causing friend 4 to jam on the brakes, subsequently causing friend 3 to also jam on the brakes and LOSE CONTROL.
At this point.....I WAS IN SHOCK....Here I was going 120MPH with a car violently spinning just inches in front of me. To make matters worse, I was locked in to my lane because friend 2 was riding along side of me.....
I closed my eyes, grasped the wheel, and punched the gas. I heard a loud BOOM...followed by SCREECHING...and thought I had nailed friend 3. I looked up expecting to see a crunched up hood, but instead saw the cars of friends 1 and 4 rapidly slowing down and pulling off. I made it through unscaved!!!!!
The bad news: friends 2 and 3 had a violent collision. Cops and ambulances were immediately on the scene.
Miraculously, everything turned out fine, no one was seriously hurt physically: just mentally. And of course, our drivers licenses were suspended
As many of you know, the ES's stock suspension really doesn't feel stable at triple digit speeds, so I was lucky. I don't plan on pushing this car, or any other car outside the range of control again.....or at least for the next few weeks
So drive safely!.....don't be stupid like we were.

Well that's interesting...
I drive a 99 GS400 but yesterday, today, and tommorow I've got an '03 ES3 from the dealer as a loaner.
I'm not going to rag on their nice new car, but this car sure doesn't feel like it has the top end to hit 150. I might believe 140 but even that would be in extremely optimum conditions and with a whole heck of a lot of straight road to get up to that speed.
I used to have a 95 Maxima 5-speed that would hit just under 140, and it felt QUITE a bit faster than this ES3 I'm driving right now.
Don't get me wrong... I love this 03 ES3, and driving it has made me strongly consider buying one for my soon-to-be wife. It seems to ride even smoother and quieter (with the exception of the engine and tranny which is a bit more rough around the edges) than my GS4 does. And man I LOVE the interior! The doors and dash especially- I strongly prefer it to my GS4's interior with the exception of the guages.
But a fast car, the ES3 is not.
I'm hoping that one issue will be fixed when they go to the ES330. The RX 330 saw quite the performance jump with its new motor and tranny... so maybe we'll see a similar boost with the ES330.

Mezoom, it's the freeway side opposite of the the LA buildings (heading towards the 5fwy). I usually don't race anymore but it was a friend of mine and the freeway was empty and straight so i thought what the heck...(95% of the time i drive like a slowpoke)
Trexx, your LT1 seems strong, was that competely stock when you dynoed??? I also thought the z28's were governed @ 154 or 158???
I have a 6 speed LS1 with few bolt ons that pulled 330hp/345tq and i got scared at 150mph - too much wind noise entering the cabin It was still pullin' hard though

LT1 Z28s are either governed at 110 MPH (if they come with the V-rated tires from the factory instead of Z-rated... don't ask me WTH GM was smoking putting V-rated tires and a 110 limiter on 1/3rd of their V8 Camaros... I have no idea.
Anyhow, mine had that limiter but I used a hypertech programmer and removed it.
I'm 99% sure that the LT1 f-bodies without the 110 limiter have no limiter at all... but who knows since that wasn't mine. Mine topped out because of wind resistance, and also because it was shaking so badly it felt like it was going to fall apart on the middle of the road.
