DIY: Immobilizer Hacking for Lost Keys or Swapped ECU

I'm pretty sure the 02 Corolla didn't have an immobilizer. I don't think it came with a factory alarm either.
I had the same issue. Did you try shorting the crystal?

Thanks for your reply
My car is an European Corolla E12
With the new ECU the car doesn't start.
The OBDII interface throws an error related with an unknow key.
The security light blinks when I insert the key. With the original ECU it stops blinking.
With the original ECU, if I remove the remote control of the key, presents a similar behaviour.
I think it has inmobilizer.

I have keys already programmed to start the car, but the FOB isn't programmed to remote lock/unlock as I don't have a master key.
I received the car with an aftermarket key that doesn't have any buttons and looks like a generic key. I used that key to allow my FOB to start the car, but I cannot seem to program the FOB to lock/unlock remotely.
Will this allow me to add the FOB with remote lock/unlock functionality?

Yes, this process can be used for a GS300. The only thing is the hex code to put the ecu in auto registration mode is different. I haven't been able to figure out the virgin dump for that model. If you know the hex codes for your keys they can be easily added to the eeprom.

For the GS300, check the repair manual or wiring diagram to see where the immobilizer chip is located. I know 2002+ Camry (and probably ES300) have the chip separate from the ECU just above the glove box latch. Since the GS300 came out in 1998, I'd assume its still in the ECU and a hack like this one is necessary.

You'd need a dealership code for techstream to work.

It is possible that your vehicle has both the eeprom in the ecu and another immobilizer ecu in the dash. I ran across this when working on a 2002 LX470.

You don't have to get the code from a dealer. There is actually an online calculator that works great. I have used it many times. Its Iike 5 bucks for a single passcode. If you have the option in Techstream to reset your ecu this is the way to do it
