4ES water in trunk - "roof ventilator" leaking?
I have been trying to source a leak into the trunk compartment. Today we had nice weather and I took out the interior trim. It turns out the water in the center well was what was splashing over the trunk floor rib when it got 4" to 5" deep in the storage cubby on the driver's side!
In here:
The water was clear, not like dirty road water. There was settled dirt on the bottom, so perhaps it's been in there a long time and the sediment fell out (this was after I wiped most of it up). The hole in the fender is where a "roof ventilator goes, which is a paneled vent with very flimsy rubberized material that flaps based on air pressure. I thought perhaps it was installed incorrectly but found this diagram and it appears to have been correct:
Here is the roof ventilator re-installed:
I didn't take a picture before I drained the water (pulled the sunroof drain hose out; it is in the picture). The sunroof hose appears fine, I can blow air through it without restriction. I really can't see where this is coming from if not through that ventilator device. Ideas?
Here is the ventilator re-installed. The dust on it to me implies maybe the water was coming through it? It's not broken in any way or the flap material torn. On the right side, there is no ventilator. There is a parallel drain, but that side is bone-dry.

Easiest way to find out the leak source if go to a pressure wash and have someone soak down the car while you're in the trunk with a flashlight. Make sure the person is not angry with you.
