Default OP's sister here!

Hi All, this is OP's sister here. AKA owner of the 2002 Lexus ES 300. Finally created an account of my own

So yes, the engine was replaced, very costly when it ends up costing 1/5 what you paid for the used car... Anywho, I haven't brought it in for a diagnostic yet, but would Lexus Dealership be the best place to do that?

Current status: Despite paying to have the engine replaced, I am still noticing problems with my car.

- Car's check engine light is on (ALREADY) so I need to get those codes looked at.

- When the car is driving at high speeds like >60mph, it feels like the car is shuddering or vibrating .

- Whenever I gas up (I usually don't gas up until the car's empty light is on, bad habit- I know) the car won't start after I fill it! The only way I can get it to start is by pushing on the gas pedal as I turn the key. Even then, it takes a few tries, and it's almost like I'm having to rev my engine to start it up.

Any ideas on these issues?? And reccommendations for best place to take it to get a full diagnostic (Lexus Dealership, Toyota Dealership, some chain car shop, etc).

Well, hindsight is 20/20, but next time you buy a car make sure to go to a mechanic you trust and get a pre-purchase inspection before you hand over any money.

Sorry about your car, that's a huge bummer.

How's a mechanic going to know if the cam shaft is about to fail? Does a pre-purchase inspection cover the cam shaft? Just curious.

I'm assuming the car came with a 30-day 1000 mile warranty since you bought it from a used car dealer?

Honestly I don't know ***** about cars, but always get PPI's and have my mechanic drive the car I want to buy. A quick, very shallow Google told me that if a cam shaft is failing the car will drive poorly.

That being said, I do notice OP mentions the car drove fine at first, so I don't know if a mechanic would have caught that.

You're right, I should have gotten it looked over by a professional before buying. I guess since I'd always had good luck with used Lexus before, I assumed since this one drove fine, that it WAS fine. Hindsight...

No, there was no warranty. It was bought "As Is". The engine they installed has a 90 day warranty for what it's worth..
