Default 02 ES300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction

New to the forum here so "Hi all". Working on my daughter's 2002 ES300 that she got for free from her deceased relative. He did not have money to do repairs so we got it running pretty rough and with about 150K on it. It had been burning oil for several years (valve stem seals) but it was not knocking or ticking. The car is in nice shape so I figured on taking a stab at doing a lot of work to it to bring it back to life.
So far:
  1. 6 new plugs and 6 new coils
  2. 24 new oil seals (that was tedious but not burning any more!)
  3. New throttle body manifold seal
  4. New timing belt with water pump (everything is lined up)
  5. Cleaned out 2, 4, 6, injectors
It runs just like when I got it (minus the blue smoke) so I know I have not found the misfire problem yet.

Right now I'm a little stumped with it still throwing ignition Circuit Malfunction codes P1305(#2), P1315(#4) and P1325 (#6). It also triggers P0300's random/multiple misfire for #1, #5 and #6. I'm thinking now there may be something shorting out in the front harnesses for 2, 4, 6 and hope it is not the ECU. The harness does not look damaged.

What is the best way to test each harness to try and isolate a short? Are the three on the same circuit which would cause the three P13.. codes to trip?

Thanks,
Ed

Have you seen them go bad? Any way to check the wires with an ohm meter?

I've not SEEN them go bad, but multiple posts say they can go bad. Make sure all the connectors are plugged in completely.

Last night I double checked them and noticed #1 had been damaged and the last guy used electrical tape around the connector. I should have caught that earlier (d'oh). Going to order two new harnesse sets since I have to open up the main harness to replace this broken one. Do you know if I need to pull the ecu fuse to reset it with the new wires? Thanks a lot for your input.

I replaced the harness plugs for numbers 1,3,5,6. Now I'm only getting a random misfire code for 5 and 6 so this cleared out #1. Still have the circuit misfire for 2,4,6. I'm now at a loss and will be driving it to a local mechanic. It may be a short in one of the wires

A tip: If you are trying to gain info, asking a question of a user with a total of four posts in a three year old thread is not going to achieve much besides bump a dead thread that should have been closed.

If you are having a problem w/your car, it's way more effective to start a clean, new post with as descriptive a post as you can muster. People will generally be happy to help. I do not mean this derisively; just trying to help.
