Is your 1996 ES a 1992-1996 Series, or a 1996-2001 Series?
1996 was an overlapping year.

You have the 1992-1996 ES300, so yes, 1992 parts will fit.
However, be careful.
1992-1994 is the original ES300.
While 1994-1996 is the updated ES300.
The trunk lids & bumpers are mostly identical, but the tail light lenses may have a different style, however everything will fit.

Engine/trans interchange 1996/1993
Greetings, new to this so just getting my feet wet.
I'm a former test driver at TAPG Arizona.
Looking for info on swapping 1996 ES300 engine and trans into 1993 chassis.
Is it possible and how many pieces need to be changed out?
Thanks
Doug T.

Different engine and electronics way too many parts needed unless you have an entire donor car.

I was thinking, certainly matching electrics, mounts, exhaust, etc. It would be a big project for sure. My '93 is in great condition with upgraded suspension (lots of trips to Tahoe on fantastic road (US50) :-). Legacy engine/trans issues cured with the newer drivetrain, IF it can be done.

What legacy issues? I owned a 1993 with the 3VZ-FE great engine better low end torque by far vs. the 1MZ. Sounds better as well, slightly worse gas mileage. Only two flaws that might affect you valve stem seals go bad and head gaskets will fail eventually.
It can be done but you need a pile of parts you are going from an OBD-I car to OBD-II with a different engine and complete different electronics. Unless you are into going to help yourself salvage yards and spending a few days getting all the parts or you find a donor car it's not practical.
