Default 2005 ES330 VS. >2011 Camry

I am currently looking at a 2005 Lexus ES330 with 85k miles on it. Dealer is asking $9,998. I've read about the improved sound dampening, suspension, etc, but is there any other reason to go with the older ES over a close to new Camry (2012-2014)? Do you think that price is a good deal? Should I expect any expensive repairs or maintenance in the near future (what's a timing belt service like on these?)?

Thanks in advance!

I just got mine (120k+ miles) couple of weeks ago and I find it generally good. I am not sure about the US market, but I think this asking price is high even at this relatively lower mileage. My personal opinion is to turn it down, unless the car is in a perfect condition (almost new timing belt, tires, brake pads, and rotors), with flawless interior, exterior, suspension and detailed service history. If so, you may give it a shot and try negotiating a bit lower price (may be around 9k).

When I was shopping around, my research concluded that this car is a low maintenance one and very reliable, that is why I am taking my chances with it at this high mileage hoping that it does not fail me. I saw several members here and somewhere else reaching the 300k-400k km mark.

I am planning to change my timing belt soon, looked for some quotes and all lied around the $800 CAD figure (including water pump). If I were you, I might have gone with a newer Camry given that they are sold for the same price. Because Camry is built by the same company, a 7-9 years newer car usually means more advanced technology, enhanced mechanics, better body condition, less maintenance (timing belt, etc..) and better resale value.

Anyhow, this is my own trail of thoughts and I am not as experienced or wise as many other members here. I just thought about sharing my line of thoughts.

Good Luck

I would go with the Toyota myself at that price.
