no doubt I got the idea, I was just thinking that acetone would be messy. Would you go applying acetone to your grill without seeing someone else do it first? Thats why I said that, "acetone??" as in, who the hell was crazy enough to go applying acetone on there grill. lol

There have been plenty of GS owners that have "chromed" their grilles by removing the matte black paint. Look over in the GS forums, you should find some pics. Of course, I would recommend removing the grille from the car first.

Ok, I got the grill kit about three days ago. Don't buy it, you can get there "so called" grill kit from any autoparts store. The entire kit consists of those chrome door molding strips that you can buy for under $10. I got ripped on this one, but at least we all know now. As far as how the chrome door moldings look on my grill, does the word rice sound familiar? haha. From a far distance they look tyte, but up close.. GHETTO! I will post some pics tonight or tomorrow, the rain is preventing me from right now. I am sourcing out some plastic chromers, as soon as I get some pricing and location, I will let you all know. I am talking to a couple people right now, and the most cost will be $200. I'll be back later with more info.

There are people on Ebay selling these same "chrome grill strips". I thought everyone knew these were the door protector strips. I was about to post a reply saying not to buy them but saw that
"Nixsun79" already did.

At least no one else bought them. I agree they look very Ghetto!

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!

Don't do the acetone thing. I have a chip in my front grill and you can clearly see that it is NOT chrome underneath. As for the grill kit, just return it. Be patient I should have something on getting our grills chromed, professionally, within the next couple of days.

ok guys, I got a couple of quotes on getting the grill chromed out. It's a little more expensive than I thought, but if any of you have the flow, here is the info.

Place #1
alsacorp
Phone: 323-581-5200
Price - $330.oo estimate
Location: CA

Place #2
Call 1-888-642-5996
Price - $250-$600
Location: FL
I told them about my grill and they said it should be around $400, but they would have to see it in order to give a exact quote.

Both places are highly reputable.

I found a cheaper place:

$165.oo
LexusGrill.com

They do grills for every type of Lexus. The ES3 is not listed on there site, but I sent them an e-mail that they quickly responded to saying that they can do it for $165. I'm going to get it done sometime after I get my spring/struts installed and purchase my TRD Strut tower and rear sway bars. I'll keep you posted. If anyone gets it done, please post a pic.

Did they quote you that price for an ES300 grill?

I know most of the grills they list are already chrome under the black paint and can be made to look chrome by simply removing the paint. My RX300 has a chrome grill under the paint, I also know the GS model grill is chrome under the paint.

I did not see any ES300's in their gallery?

I'd be careful before plopping down $165, make sure you are getting what you pay for.

Of course I question everything...because if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

I just want to caution you guys, I have heard some bad things about lexusgrill.com.

Perhaps one of the GS/IS owners or Moderators could explain the horrible experiences people have had with lexusgrill.com?

I asked them about the ES3 grill, spacifically. I'll paste the e-mail below. Bad things about this place, eh? I could always put the purchase on a CC and cancel the charge is things go bad, but then again why go through the hassle. What have these people done to others in the past?

Here it is:

I have a 1997 ES300 grill and was wondering if you could chrome this out
for me? If so, could you please provide me with a total cost, and
instructions on where to ship the item.

Thanks,
Jason
