no A/C

How do you know his AC needs just an Expansion Valve? Isn't it possible that he lost his refrigerant due to a leak, or maybe his compressor is defective? I think it's impossible to tell what component is defective without putting it through a battery of tests!

your AC probably needs the EXPANSION VALVE replaced. total cost is about $350.

I had the exact same problem with my 1995 ES300. No A/C , blowing hot air. The dealership at first ran a diagnostic and didnt detect any problems. They added refrigerant and said the A/C was cooling. After I drove off, the A/C was still blowing hot air. This is when they looked at it closely and isolated it to the evaporator/ expansion valve which is located in the dash.
this appears to be a similar problem with the ES300

Mine had a compressor failure, which caused the expansion valve to clog. Remenber, the enpansion valve doesn't fail, it is a pin-hole device that allows the preasure to drop, causing the freon to cool (PV=nRT). It just get plugged and doesn't let the freon flow.

I got a quote of $278.78 to fix my A/C
Thanks guys for all your suggestions...sorry for the long response I've been busy working and doing other things. Yesterday I had taken my car to auto body repair shop (he works on a lot of things...he does this right behind his house), well I had taken my car to him and he said that it's gonna be $163.00 for the R-12, $48.00 for the service, $4.00 for the oil, and $48.00 to find the leak <<<<that was the estimate. He said that there is a leak somewhere possibly from when I had my wreck back in December. Tell me what you guys think. I think it's too expensive but what do I know.

Does the LED light located on the A/C button blink occasionally when turned on? If so, that means you have a problem with the compressor of the A/C unit, and should have it fixed by the dealership or service shop. Although this is one solution to the problem, a simple A/C recharge can only last so long; this is the same result for most of the older SCs. Expansion valve repairs are pretty costly, so you should consider that as a last resort. Bring your car for a good A/C diagnosis, and keep us updated.
