Default 03 ES300 with 20k miles

An older gentleman went to our dealership and sold his 03 ES300 with 19,800 miles. We bought it from him for $6k. I'm assuming my dealership would sell it to me between $8-$9k. They guy was the 2nd owner, no accidents, white on biege. Car is super clean except for a minor bumper scuff. For $8-$9k would this be a steal considering the miles? Anything i should look out for? Any input will be appreciated.

Being overly pessimistic, a 16 year old car with only 20K miles I'd be concerned about engine oil sludging. One of the postulated theories on engine oil sludging was very short trips, less than a mile or so, not allowing the engine to warm up allowing the condensation to evaporate. I wouldn't worry about it because there is not much you can do to correct it except change oil the frequently.

Being optimistic, you got a great deal.

Also you'll be needing a new timing belt if there is not record of change.

^ What he said. Change oil three or four times at 1500-mile intervals with a high quality synthetic. Some people recommend using a bottle of Seafoam with each of these to help eat away the sludge (I've never done this, full synthetic, short-interval changes have worked to clear sludge for me). Put highway miles on it.

I wouldn't buy such an old car with so little miles. I'd rather have a Lexus that's been broken in for much cheaper.
