Default Fuel filters

In going over everything in my 1994 ES300 I plan to replace the "fuel filter" and the "fuel pump strainer". I'm almost certain that both are original equipment. Now would it be OK to get both from my local auto parts store (if so what brands should I go with) or should it be purchased from the dealer?

I get mine from RA. For fuel filters, I prefer Wix or Beck/Arnley...both usually say "made in Taiwan," but the price is right:

- Beck/Arnley 043-0970 ($13.97)
- Wix 33502 ($12.75)
- Wix 33665 ($15.05, with bracket, highly recommended)

I don't think I've ever had one really fail (haven't cut the OEMs open to see), but I replace at 200k or 15-20 years. No change after on any of my Toys or Lexuses.

For the strainer, I go with a Denso if it's available; don't see it separately on RockAuto, comes in the Denso fuel pump kit however. I wouldn't replace it if it wasn't really gummed up...I only ever see little particles of grit which I can blast away with non-chlorinated brake cleaner (pressurized acetone). Good as new.

Thanks nsghtbrwry I was concerned whether I needed to buy a fuel filter from the dealer or if the brand at Autozone would work as well. They sell Duralast and it's about $19.

Ugh, except for the Duralast Gold batteries (just slightly cheaper Sears DieHard. Think they're made by Johnson Controls?), I would avoid all AutoZone Don't-last products. Generally speaking, they're crap.

nsghtbrwry there's an advanced auto near me also and they have Purolator and AC Delco available. What are your views on those.? If not then I'll have to go online and have it shipped.

AA is a better chain than AutoZone IMO. I've never used anything other than what I listed above, but I bet the Purolator will be fine, and the ACDelco is probably made by someone else then rebranded.
