Nope. If it's overheating, your water pump might not be working, thermostat might be stuck closed, head gasket could be blown, fans could be busted, or thermo fan switch at the bottom of the radiator might be broken causing fans not to come on when coolant gets too hot.

it's very unlikely that would be the cause of overheating, but not impossible. i think you will find the cause will actually be something else, and those two sensors will be a part of the overall problems you car has.

I had the same issue with my 98. I started from the cheapest to most expensive but prior to this, I had done my timing belt and water pump so I knew those couldn't be the issue I did that because I had just bought the car and didn't know if the timing was done since the car was at 150k. So first I replaced the radiator cap that didn't work, Then I replaced the sensor near the radiator and that didn't help. I then proceeded to the thermostat and found out that it was rigged and cut so it was open the whole time. I'm assuming the previous owner had an overheating problem. So I replaced it and put a new one in there and noticed it was still overheating. Then I decided to check my actual radiator and found out it was a bit clogged and damaged from I guess old age. I think it has never been replaced so I went ahead and replaced that to still find out my car is still overheating. I've done everything I could do out of my apartment I can't really work under the engine like I'd like to so I went ahead and took it over to my mechanic and he diagnosed it with a blown head gasket. $750 later the car stopped overheating but now I notice my thermometer on the dash is buggy it jumps all the way up just under the red indicating the car is overheating but when I check everything under the hood it's fine even putting a digital reader to it and nothing it's running at normal temp. Until this day my thermometer shows that my car is overheating and it's clearly not. I don't know what could fix that other than replacing the actual dash I guess? But yeah I'd check everything small that leads to the cooling system before taking it in to a mechanic.
