Default Parking Break Light Comes on/off

Question, is this just a question of the emergency brake either needing adjusted, or if there is a bad switch on the emergency brake pedal? I assume this has nothing to do with the actual brakes that stop the car, as there is another light for that. This is regarding my 2000 ES300. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

If I'm understanding correctly which light is on, check your brake fluid level.

It's the parking break (emergency brake) light. Not the VSC or ABS light. Brake fluid level is good. I thought the parking brake was mechanical and would not be affected by the brake fluid and the braking system for the car at the four wheels?

The light will also illuminate if the brake fluid level is low. Did you remove the master cylinder cap to check the fluid level? Sometimes the M/C appears to be full due to discoloration of the reservoir.

Mine would be lit when the fluid was low or when the brake was depressed.

I did, I even went to top it off thinking the level was deceiving but there was not much topping off. The M/C was full. Switch seems fine. Comes on and off when the pedal is depressed. Not sure where else to go other than to keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I know others have said it but .... it's the fluid level. no really ... it's the fluid level, ... in case that didn't sink in ... it really .. really is the fluid level.
