Check engine light/foward gears not working.
So I'm new to piston engines and automatic transmissions (My background is all rotary) and my 95 es300 is acting strange. I got a check engine light today and now whenever I put the car in drive it will die out and shut off. Reverse and park work fine, it's only the foward moving gears. So my question is, would this be as simple as changing the fluids or would it be solenoids or a tranny rebuild? I've looked through the forums and I haven't found someone else having the same problem.

You will need to retrieve the check engine light code, or have someone do it for you. Without that code, it's only expensive guess work.
many auto parts chain stores will retrieve the code for you free of charge.
Your 95 should be OBD2 compliant.

If you haven't replaced your capacitors in your ECU. That could be one of the root causes.
I recently found two blown capacitors in mine.
It was smoking from running too rich and really high idle.
I'm in the process of replacing mines which is also a 95
