Default Replacing headlight on 2002 ES300

Hi... the headlight on the passenger side of my 2002 ES300 is burnt out. I have two questions (1) the owner's manual lists 2x bulbs for this (Discharge bulb D2R & Halogen bulb H7) - how do you tell which one you need? (2) How do you remove the old bulb & replace it with the new one? Just looking at the back of the headlight assembly under the hood, I only see the wiring going into the bulb section...don't see how to get in there. Thanks in advance for your help!

The HID bulbs have a different bulb shape and no filament. Look at them and compare if you don't know already know if you have HID bulbs or not.

The mounting is the same between the two I think; twist off the retaining ring and withdraw them. Some people need to remove the whole headlight to get at the sidemarker lights, but I don't think that this is necessary for the main bulb.

Thanks for your reply. So are you saying that the 2 bulbs that the owner's manual lists are different types - that my ES would only have one of those? I wasn't clear if it meant that there are 2 actually in there?

Also...I've replaced bulbs on many other vehicles, and as you said they're usually just a quick release twist off type of mounting into the headlight assembly. I don't see that here though...just see the wiring going into the assembly, but the back of the assembly seems like a solid block of plastic. So not really sure how to access the bulb. Thanks again.

Twist the plastic either clockwise or counter. Slotted fitment so it goes one way or the other. Clip keeps bulb in place behind plastic. Squeeze and bulb holder comes out. You have to look at bulb. It's either one style or the other, not both.

I am going to be under the hood of ours today for some maintenance. If you are still having trouble let me know and I can do mine and post pics. You may already know this, but when you put in the new bulb do not touch it or get any other oil or anything on it.
