Default ABS Codes 21,22,23,24 TRAC control light

this info is buried in some other threads but just wanted to create one easy one to find with a search to help out the next guy. If you get all of these codes, and maybe even another one or two, the FIRST thing you should check us your alternator. Makes perfect sense right? A brake warning caused by the alternator? The code is for low voltage at the sensors so it sort of makes sense.

I read many many thread where people changed all sorts of parts and sensors on the brake system only to have the lights come back on. I did notice a random post or 2 saying the issue went away after changing the alternator. I got the codes and thought I would check the alternator because that is very easy to do. On my 1999 ES300 with 207,000 miles, voltage at the battery with no accessories at idle was 13.5. Not great, but not bad enough to turn on the battery light. I started turning on accessories and the voltage kept dropping. Soon the alternator could not keep up and the battery was discharging. I replaced the alternator (after one bad unit from NAPA, just go ahead and spend the money for an OEM rebuild). Voltage at idle is over 14.00 and stayed there even with all accessories on. The ABS light went off and has not come back on.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

This topic has been discussed extensively on this forum, here is one of the threads. In short, factory 80A alternators are too weak for those cars, so if you are replacing one, you might as well get a 100A unit off of RX300/Highlander, it has a lot more performance for about the same price. RockAuto sells Denso rebuilt units, which tend to be very good quality, they will last you a good while.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
