I have had this light on for a long time (driving me crazy), but all the bulbs work. I did change out the tail lights that came from a 2000, but didn't change any bulbs. As anyone ran into this issue before.... do I have to replace all the bulbs for the light to turn off?
thanks in advance

Sometimes if the bulb is on its way out, or if you used those "long-life" bulbs that are on the shelf at so many auto parts stores, this can happen. It checks resistance of the bulbs, and a nearly-broken filament or a higher-resistance LL bulb can trip the resistor-net sensor. If not, the sensor is on its way out, search the forums/Google for the bypass.
Also, check the side marker bulbs and center high-mount stoplamp; often overlooked since there are 10 goddamn bulbs on the back (at least on my '01). Not sure if the license plate lamps will trip it.
Go to the dealer and get the bulb from them. I have tried the exact same bulb from autoparts stores and NONE of them worked. Got one from the dealer $5 and light is off. easy peasy!!

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the response.
Did you have to replace just one bulb in order for it the light to go off? Or do I have to buy multiple bulbs.... I guess I'll have to find out when I go to the Toyota dealer tonight/tomorrow.

THe guy at my lexus dealer was awesome. as i was ready to buy all of the rear light bulbs good or not. he told me to just replace the bulb that was out and go from there. my 3rd brake light was the culprit and the one bulb did the trick. i would advise the same strategy.
IM having this problem with my 05 ES330 the taillights on the trunk so the only way to get the light to go off is by getting the bulbs from the dealer?
Mine was the licence plate light and the 3rd brake light - hope that helps.
But best to change all of them once and not worry about it later - do ensure to check for any faulty connections or bad wires.
I changed my battery recently and this also helped.

for me it was the only way to insure the correct resistance in the bulb. as i stated before i tried auto parts store bulbs and although they were the correct bulb ( according to their computer) the stupid light stayed on. I went to the dealer got a bulb $5 later the light was off.
Back with the update got the bulbs from my Lexus dealer they were cheap like $3.94 for both of them changed them out and the light went away hardest part of this job is removing the plastic taps from the trunk and the left side is little more work since the handle is there but other then that not to bad I’m just glad that stupid light ain’t on anymore
Glad you got it fixed, dealer parts are almost always better. I had the dreaded light come on in my car even though no lights were out. I replaced a GE lamp with OEM the warning light went away.

So glad it worked out. I know how frustrating these things can be and the answer is usually quite simple.
