Looking to do a "Flush & Fill" but before doing it I would like to know what type and do I need to get it from the stealership? or can I get it from someplace like AutoZone? I bought the filter and gasket today but they didn't have the fluid. Would like to do this within the next couple of days since it won't be as cold as it has been. Any assistance that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Just drain and fill. Don't flush.
Make sure you use the correct fluid. Check owner's manual.

I'm guessing he means the filter inside the pan and the pan gasket. Depending on your year will determine what fluid you need.

U series transmissions use a felt like filter and need to be changed. A series is a fine mesh you can generally get away with not changing it.

Depending upon year, the spec you are trying to meet is either DexIII or Toyota T-IV. A fluid that meets both would be Castrol Transmax High Mileage. Here is a link to the product data sheet:

I like this fluid for a few reasons - it has HM additives, and the viscosity is very appropriate for a drain/fill (partial change). It is 8.0 cSt at 100C, which is slightly above the standard 7.2cSt of DexIII/TIV. This helps bring up the average viscosity of the total fill closer to the ideal spec. It is available in gallon jugs at Walmart now for $18, which is a good price and wide availability. Presumably it is a slightly tweaked version of the highly regarded Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle which has been widely used for a long time.

I would add two other points:

a) I would drain the PS reservoir and refill it with fresh ATF at the same time as the AT service, and do this each time you drain/fill the AT. Replacing the PS pumps on these is a little bit of a pain so try to avoid it through maintenance.

b) I would think about adding some Lubegard Red transmission protectant to the transmission, particularly if you have a U140 transmission (99 to 01). The ester oil technology is not snake oil; it's solid chemistry and the same stuff in some of the highest performing lubricants (jet engines, Redline oil, etc). I have had impressive, measurable results using it in two engines (the engine version - blue) and the gear product (yellow) in the differentials in my SUV. I am now starting to use it in the AT and PS systems. I'd put 9 ozs of the 10 oz bottle in the AT and 1 oz. in your PS system. If you do this, get the Red, not the Platinum transmission additive; that is different.
