Please help me with codes on my ES300
I just bought a really clean 2001 es300 with 126k miles on it. All maintenance up to date. But now the check engine light and ABS light came on and it shows codes C1201, P0440, P0442. Can someone tell me what might be going on???

Hello,
P0440 and P0442 indicate that there is a leak in the EVAP (Evaporative Emissions Control System), which is responsible for not allowing petrol fumes from escaping the fuel tank. The list of possible causes and ways to combat them is pretty much endless, from a cap not tightened all the way to a leak in a charcoal canister, which could indicate a need of some real investments..
Start by re-tightening the gas cap and resetting the codes, if that won't help, check all the hoses and VSV valves under the hood and around the charcoal canister, located in the back of a car. You can also replace the seal on that cap, P/N is 77316-16010 (avoid using aftermarket gas caps, they are a hit or miss), if none of that would work, you will likely need to visit a shop with a smoke generator to locate a leak.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
