So my cars coolant hose ripped two weeks ago and I replaced the hose but the mechanic just topped off the coolant he didn't replace it. So I've been reluctant to drive it I drove once 40mi total to pick someone up from the airport and my engine sounded like crap. I believe it might be due to the fact that I need an oil change. So I decided to check it out today after 7 days non use and the engine starts an immediately dies. Check the dipstick and the engine oil is dark/smells burnt. The oil lamp illuminates for like a second after you start the engine but goes away cause the engine dies. Is this a problem with the oil or coolant? How do I know my car is not completely dead? I just want to know if either these two culprits can cause a situation like this.

Not enough info in your post to take an educated guess. I can guess and say there is engine sludge, lack of engine oil? We have no way of knowing that the mechanic did or didn't do.

Does the engine run if you continually press on the accelerator and then dies when you remove the pressure on the accelerator? If so, the problem could be a dirty intake air control valve IACV.
Regardless, it sounds like you are well past an oil change. Do you have any error codes?
