This may sound stupid, but when I use bleach to clean my deck, it removes the old redwood stain and turns the wood back to blonde/natural. Rather than sand off the old stain, couldn't you bleach it out?

Probably not. It has a clear laquer on it from the factory. Its a spray clearcoat. If you sand through that then maybe.

I am still gathering myself self before doing this… Want to make sure I can drive the car in the meantime… I realize the Trip computer controls and airbag wouldn’t be hooked up, but will and 1990s Camry steering wheel physically bolt to the column for temporary use? Wouldn’t imagine Toyota would bother changing the size and spline of their steering shaft…And what will happen if I start the car with the airbag disconnected and out of the car?

Also, if somebody happens to know the size and spline count that would be good, I have a couple steering wheels laying around

Thanks!

No airbag will trigger an SRS code. Do not drive the car without the proper wheel this is a serious liability issue that could cause you to lose everything. Just don't do it.

I see what you mean if the shaft/spline was different, but if it’s, just as an example, 3/4” by 48 teeth for all Toyota cars, there is 0 chance of a malfunction. Did you mean if there was an accident, I could be liable financially / insurance wise?

Yes. If you get in an accident that is your fault insurance could see the modification and not cover you for anything. If you get injured due to lack of airbag that will raise red flags. Either way no airbag means SRS codes you'll have to clear.

And you've discussed doing it on a public forum. If you want to risk it the splines are the same on nearly every Toyota and Lexus.
