Ecu swap97 too 99

The 99 that I was purchasing the car starts but shuts off mechanic said it's the ECU computer I have a 97 can I just take that ECU and swap it without any issues

They are not compatible the 1999 ES has VVTi. There are multiple ECU's for a given year depending on traction control option, Cali emissions and the production date.

Yep you said it, it won't work, unless by fluke you have a 99 without VVT-i and the part numbers are exactly the same as the 97 ECU.

ES300 ECU's on Ebay

Save on cost by checking Ebay for used ECUs. Make sure numbers match the ECU your replacing. There are variants.
