Default 1999 RX 300 - at 250k miles is a rebuilt transmission worth it?

I've got a 1999 RX 300. I shipped it to France when I moved here to work. It has 250,000 miles and now is not shifting well. I had a gearbox flush but it didn't make a lot of difference.

- With the age of this car, will it make sense to put in a rebuilt transmission?

- I wanted to do an LPG conversion (because the price of gas here is ridiculously high) and I was advised against it.

I really love this car and would hate to get rid of it.
