Default Desperate goes from neutral to 4 skips drive

Hello,We are on a vacation, and just got our car back from valet… 2002 Lexus ES 300.... I noticed a few minutes after we left the hotel that the car wouldn’t shift into drive, it lights up the “4” in the gauge cluster, and will not going to drive. I pulled over, disconnected both battery terminals and cleared the computer, that did not help. The tranny fluid is nice and red, smells fine, and is full. No check engine light Please help we are 250-300 miles from home

Problem temporarily solved. On the side of the expressway, we disassembled the center counsel and found a plastic white fork and moved it. The car is now in drive, and we thanked God. We will deal with it when we get home. If anybody knows more details about the white plastic fork, like if it is replaceable by itself and if so part number that would great

Breaking down on vacation is not a good feeling. Here's the shifter mechanism not many parts available individually from the dealer worst case you can buy a used shifter mechanism.

That was such an awful feeling! I’ve let the valet manager know. I also explained that I would be fixing it, they would be paying for parts. If they don’t want to do that, I can show them a quote from the Lexus dealership to do it… Crazy. The guy just have SLAMMED it into drive

I don't doubt it props for taking it apart on the side of the road! There's a couple of used shifter assemblies on Ebay you might have to swap the shift ****.

thanks haha didn't have a choice. Wife in the passenger seat, 3 and 1 year olds in the back. We didn't take the odyssey because we left home literally 2 hours after finishing a MASSIVE move (1344ft^2 plus full attic and basement, and my 22X28 garage/shop) and the odyssey needs a thermostat as it is lazy. I will say this, that ES is a DREAM on the road for long stretches. Being that problem is solved, this is kind of a dud of a thread, but hopefully saves someone else a headache when they google the same problem.

I've been absent here lately because the preparation for that move consumed me, but I am glad to be back, albeit a couple days early
