Exclamation CV Join Replacement Already Leaking?

Hey All,

I found an inch wide hole in the outer cv joint boot a few weeks ago. I purchased and installed an aftermarket cv joint from O' Reilly's after finding the issue. I have driven the car around 50 miles since the replacement and noticed a burning smell after coming to a stop. I needed to replace the rotors and while doing that work I found grease slung all over the front passenger side tire well and rim. Upon further inspection the grease is coming from the outer boot on the cv joint I just replaced. What do I need to check before dropping another $60 on another cv joint? Thanks for your time and any help you can offer!

I would go back to O'Reilly's and tell them it is defective, If buying parts from a parts house, I would buy them from NAPA or any other parts house with higher quality parts.

I would order a Moog boot replacement, they cost a little more but, they hang in there and fit good. You could order them online or ask the parts counter person to order one, NAPA is pretty good place to try.
