I don't know about you but I like to take a long road trip or two sometime during the summer. I've got a 2003 ES300 that is really comfortable to drive (as all of you already know) and driving long distance just seems to be crazy easy. I returned to Missouri yesterday from a family reunion in upstate NY with a side trip to the ocean in CT and then back home.
Here are the stats:
End of trip odometer reading: 329,652
58 hours driving time
3113 total miles driven
105.301 gallons of 87 octane used
$283.01 spent on gas
$2.69 avg cost/gal
29.6 avg mpg (mostly 65 and 70 mph)
Highest cost per gallon of gas was $2.97 9/10 in Pennsylvania and the lowest cost per gallon of gas was $ $2.49 9/10 in Waynesville, MO
Been on a trip lately? How'd it go?

I am not that fastidious about keeping records, but I drive mine between 80-90 mph and I average about 23-24 mpg. On my trips, I travel between OKC and Houston (or Dallas) and experience a significant increase in elevation when I travel north of Dallas. That's also while my mileage suffers. Even after 8 hours in the car, clipping along at 80-90 with bursts up to 120 mph, I don't even fee tired at the end of the trip. I have heard that the LS 430 is the ultimate road trip car. I want to own one some day, but many of them are ratted out in my area. The ones that aren't are well north of $10k.
Just got back from a road trip from Branson, MO to upstate NY (Ithaca) and back. Same car as the original post and here are the figures:
End of trip odometer reading 378,862
46’ 22” driving time
2441 total miles driven
81.28 gallons of 87 octane used
$283.83 spent on fuel
$3.49 avg cost/gallon
29.69 avg. mpg (mostly between 65 & 70mph)
Lowest price fuel - $3.29 Huber Hgts, OH and St. Louis, MO and the highest price fuel - $3.89/gal Ithaca, NY
All the above in a car that weighs in at 3439 lbs + 2 passengers and a whole lot of luggage.
LoL, Korey. Long time, no talk. Nice to see your words, really. How’s the band?
I haven’t checked this sub-forum in ages and found this. And it’s so nice - I get your vibe.
My dad now drives our 2002 300. I re-did the interior but at 335k it runs like new and drives great. I have a few Volvos I’ve totally rebuilt with larger turbos, tweaked suspension, aftermarket tunes. They make big power, drive like go-carts, and look sexy. And drive well. But when I want to get 30mpg and just relax on a long drive, I go ask for the keys to the 2002 ES300.
Love the car. It has been through multiple drivers in the family (I in fact have never been the main driver), but this car will not leave the family. Ever.
