No, it was for a replacement master key. And he said this price is low and lucky for me because if I hadn't brought in my current master key to show him, he would have given me a New ECM+ new keys +programming quote.
And above in my first post, when I said w/o programing, I meant key cutted only, programming extra charge.

Our “new” 2005 Lexus ES330 was practically a gift and was dealer maintained, so we became Lexus Snobs overnight and have entered the age of remote key fobs and valet keys, etc, etc....
Another question... The only difference in a master key and a valet key is is the transmitter?

Apart from the obvious that you don’t have remote capability, another major difference is that a valet key can not open the trunk, nor the glove box, nor the access door between the trunk and the back seat.

Richardsr- I just had a "Valet" chip key(no buttons) purchased & cut at Ace Hardware- works perfectly. $80 total. (I don't have a Master key-had only ONE Valet key, and was very worried about losing it, so $80 gave me peace-of-mind! LOL!)

“I don't have a Master key-had only ONE Valet key” So you don’t have access to your trunk? What happens if you have a flat tire?

Replaced my 2002 ES broken key for under $30 into a newer style flip keyfob
Replaced my 2002 ES broken key with a newer style flip keyfob all for under $30.
Had just bought a used but very nice and properly maintained 2002 ES300 from GL a few weeks ago.
She bought the car brand new back in 02’ and decided to replace her daily driver with a 2016 Lexus ES.
Sold it to me at a very good price. I’m thankful she let her baby go for so cheap. Love the car, will use it as my daily car as I work for a beverage company and will be putting lots of mileage (reimbursed @$0.545/mile) on it.
Only issue I had is that she only gave me a valet key (grey single key, no buttons) along with a broken key fob missing actual key, only components to that broken key is the actual remote w/3 buttons.
Used the remote to gain access into car then used valet key to drive. Got aggravated with it and started searching online for key replacement.
My local Lexus dealership wanted over $500!!!!
Bought the flip key from Amazon for under $8. Received it 2 days later with PRIME!
Took the inside of broken remote (w/3 buttons) and placed it into my new flip key.
Went there my local hardware store with valet key and surprisingly they was able to cut it for only $20!!!
everything works great on it and all for under $30!
A LOT LESS then dealership
