Has anyone out there (here) ever dismantled a front seat belt retractor unit to tighten up the spring tension? Can this adjustment even be done? TIA!

I know this probably isn't the answer you want, but there are many 97-01 ESs in you-pull scrap yards now... It would be wiser than messing with something that you may count on to save you life... I balance my own tires so I get wanting to DIY everything but belts/SRS is a different story

"...there are many 97-01 ESs in you-pull scrap yards now..." Yeah, that's an option. I would hate to pull one from a wreck, only to find it's as bad as mine. I just thought there might be something like a racheting adjustment built in to it. Wishful thinking i guess...

I read about how to do this a long while back, and I tightened up the driver's belt on my SUV. It was not terribly complicated. If you google enough, you can find instructions for it.
