Default P2121 code - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

I have a 2004 ES330. It’s my daily driver and runs great but I just pulled the car out of the garage to wash it and when I turned it back on, the check engine light came on so I scanned the code and got a P2121. I checked the connection on the sensor behind the pedal and it’s perfectly fine but there’s a delay when pressing the accelerator pedal to get the RPM’s up and I have not tried driving the car. I cleared the code and still have the same symptom on the accelerator pedal. Has anyone ever gotten this code and fixed it? Looks like I have to replace the accelerator pedal assembly with sensor but before ordering, I just want to make sure that’s the fix for it. Any help is appreciated.

(The car has 128k miles and I purchased it from the original owner 4 months ago and has been perfectly fine since then)

That's almost always the fault of the sensor itself on the pedal but damaged wires can also cause it. Was your ES part of the recall/settlement? You can check here

The wiring seems to be fine as well. Could that code also come up if the throttle body is dirty? I haven’t checked that yet but will check tomorrow.

I checked my VIN on that link and it shows 0 recalls for my car.

Not sure but I doubt it. Does the sensor on the pedal look like this one in the video? On the car he's working on the sensor is on the throttle body but I think it's basically what's on your pedal assembly could be wrong.

I can't seem to find the sensor seperate in parts diagrams maybe aftermarket has it. Amazon has the entire pedal assembly they say it doesn't fit your car but Lexus parts site says it does pretty sure I have the part number correct.

Amazon Amazon

edit -Rockauto sells the sensor not cheap. In that video the problem is a cold solder joint.

No, my sensor doesn’t look like that at all. Rock Auto has the sensor separate (I forgot the maker of that sensor) but also has the accelerator pedal assembly with the sensor from Beck Arnley. I can’t seem to find much info on other ES’s of this gen having this issue but I’m afraid I’ll have to replace the pedal assembly with sensor, just don’t know how much work is involved. I’m decently mechanically inclined but never removed a pedal assembly before (kind of dreading it).

I don't think it will be that hard to replace. Sensor sure looks like the one in the video to me.

UPDATE;

So it looks like the accelerator pedal assembly with sensor needs to be replaced all at once when getting the P2121 code. I couldn't find it locally brand new for sale (price ranges anywhere between $360-$500) so I went to the junkyard and took the accelerator pedal assembly complete with sensor from another 4th Gen ES. Went home, installed it and the code is gone and I have a working accelerator pedal again and the code is gone. Best part is I got a used pedal and sensor for $14.
