Default Low Beam Headlight Bulb Replacement Question

Hello All, I'm new here. Quick question, I have a 2004 ES 330 that needs a new low beam headlight, took it to a local shop who specializes in Lexus/Toyota's and he told me it will cost about 120.00 to replace it including labor, he said the bulb itself cost about 100.00, I go to Pepboys and they have headlight bulbs that matches my car that cost way less, I'm seeing bulbs for like 30.00, can I go with these bulbs or is there any reason why I have to go with this 100.00 one. Your answer will be greatly appreciated.

It depends on if you have HIDs or not. Halogen is an inexpensive H7 bulb the xenon HID is D2R considerably more at a local auto parts store. Online expect a Philips D2R to run $30-40.

Yeah, the D2R’s are about $40 a pop online and with the labor/grunts and groans included, you got a fair deal. A set of Halogens goes for $40 a set. Personally, the new Halogens are great and not a bad choice at all if money is a question.

Here’s a video if you want to try it yourself. Watch it until you feel ready. Note, wear latex/rubber gloves to keep your oily fingers off the bulb.

Its about a hour of labor for the HIDs for first timers, Excellent video forwarded from Richardsr thanks. The back covers can be a little stubborn to remove, they twist one way off and then the another way back on. Coat the seal with a little oil and make sure its flush with the back of the headlight housing B4 twisting back in for the proper seal. If the other side is just as old you will want to replace it also, or one maybe brighter than the other. Also there are color temperature bulbs rated for brightness the 4300 K is the brightest white with a slight tinge of blue and the best for visibility, and was standard on my 2003 ES. Pretty easy fix for the First timer.
