Default upper goil pan gasket

Hey all,

I vaguely remember hearing that the upper pan is a nightmare to deal with. Is this true? can it be done with the motor in the car and does the crank or any bearings have to be touched?

Thanks

Drew

It can be done with the correct tools.
Home garage or at a shop with a lift?

No need to touch the bearings.
Its just a plain ol' sub pan.

thanks for your response! please define correct tools. Home shop, but I am into crazy crap like frame grafts and fabricating hot rod parts to I am used to being underequipped and creative ;-)

I have NEVER made a mistake doing an oil change except when I was 16 I left an oil cap off... this MAY have been a loose filter, as I was easily able to get a turn and a half in, and the oil leak is right under it, but I am not writing off something way worse. It was 45 below zero here for a few days with the wind chill, now my car is leaving grapefruit size oil puddles. Guess we'll see tomorrow

Yea..very rare i seen post here on sub pans leaking for MZ motors.

Clean off oil residue then asses where the leak is actually coming from.

Man I hope so. I have literally welded modern cars back together and fabricated solutions, nothing makes me want to get rid of a car EXCEPT oil leaks lol

Ditto. So far looks good. I truly think the oil filter wasnt on tight enough and backed off enough to leak. I have NEVER made a mistake like that before I am a bit embarrassed, but blessed that that is it

I guess I jumped the gun by posting. All is well. The cardboard was perfectly clean when I pulled out today. It was the oil filter. Yikes! I’ve done like 200 oil changed and never did that before. Thank God because given the weather and time/space, this job would have been terrible

Probably had some gunk in between the mating surfaces of the filter and housing.
Glad that was all it.
