03 ES300 Subwoofer Dead
I recently purchased this car for my daughter, 2003 ES300 with Mark Levinston. Great awesome car as expected on an ES. One of 2 isssues as purchased was the subwoofer - it doesn’t work. Although all of the other speakers work, it still doesn’t seem to sound right. Here is what I have observed:
1. No sound whatsoever coming from the subwoofer. Based on physical inspection (whatever I can see from the trunk), woofer seems intact - no obvious tears or degeneration.
2. Front speakers seem to be lacking “highs”. Good bass and mids coming from the speakers, highs are a little muffled.
3. Rear speakers decent highs.. and mids, but no bass whatsoever.
Now, here are my delemas:
1. Based on what I read in this forum, it could be either the subwoofer.... or the amp. Big question is... which one? Any diagnostic tips?
2. Is the lacking of “highs” a front speaker issue or amp issue?
3. Do the rear speakers truely do not have bass in them at all since the sub is in close proximity? Or an amp issue??
Any tips will help. Thanks!
Oh just in case you guys were wondering on what the 2nd issue was... its the door locks. Only the driver door locks and unlocks - via key fob, driver door lock switch and passenger door. - any idea on what it might be? Seems kinda unlikely that 3 atuators are out... or is it what other people had told me that it might be the master driver side switch on the driver door? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Press the unlock button twice in quick succession all doors should unlock. For the subwoofer do a simple continuity test with a multi meter if you find an open circuit you probably found your problem. The factory amp is a decent piece of gear IMO.

As Lex2K says, do an ohm test with a DMM, should be 4-8 ohms, or you could pull the leads from the subwoofer
and hook them up to,a cheap spare speaker and see if the spare works. That way you can rule out the amp...
