I don't think the people find the 02+ ES300 a disappointment.

Aside from transmission woes and tepid power, the new ES is, dare I say; Perfect (for what it is intended to be).

The ES was the ultimate entry-lux car from 92-96. Trouble started in 98 when new competitors (Acura TL) blew the ES away in value.

Times were rough for the ES until the 02 model year, which has put the ES back on the map as the ultimate entry-lux automobile.

The ES sells close to 6,000 units a month. Compare that to about 5,000 units for the Acura TL and only 800 for the GS300.

Sales figures speak for themselves. In north-Suburban Chicago, new ES300's out-number Camry's and Accord's 2 to 1.* People love it!

Those who are disappointed in 02+ ES300 are either used to the looks of the older ES300's or are after a more thrilling performance.
As long as what you're looking for is a smooth, quiet and refined ride, the ES300 will be, as XenonES3 said, a perfect fit for you.

Well said. I think one of the big draws of the entry-level '02+ ES300 is in it's non-entry-level interior...from the Regency leather and the rich wood trim all the way down to the way the various interior compartments open at a synchronized rate. It gives you the feel of the LS430 in a smaller package and at a much lower price (hence the "baby LS" moniker). This is, of course, thanks to the IS300 covering the sports segment so that the ES can focus on luxury instead of trying to do double duty. Of course, now the ES bores your typical car magazine editor to no end.

i myself own a 2002 es300. i have to say that im very happy with my ride, but not many ppl ( well on this forum i guess) are happy with it. ur right it might be cause they are used to the older looking model.
i beg to differ i think the newer es looks alot more ...shall i say modern ? well i dont know the word for it , cause the new es is truly indescribable apart from the gear shifts n trans ,which i dont even think are that bad anyway, lots of ppl complain about the exterior. cmon guys wats not to love!

I test drove the '03 ES300 in February. I was hesitant to buy it for two reason. First the A-pillar seemed to reduce my field of vision slightly. I'm not sure if this was real or imagined since I didn't measure the exact angular field of view through the windshield. I plan on doing a more analytic test drive of the '04 ES330 provided that it has steering wheel radio controls. I wll say that the engine of the ES300 was silky smooth compared with a couple of other comparable '03 sedans.that I drove recently.

I have had an ES300 for model years 1993, 1995, 1998, 2001 and now 2003. Granted I only have 1200 miles on the new car but I like it better than any of the others I have owned. Whoever said Baby LS hit it on the head. I just feel good in this car and love driving it.

Thumbs up

Purchased an 03 300 in April. Previous was an 99 LS 400... The ONLY thing I miss is the superb power of the LS. The 03 300 offers luxury at a far lesser price, the interior is superb, the seats comfortable, the ride close to the 400 (nothing will top that) and the 300 is considerably easier in the handling and parking modes. Sound system is excellent, ASL works beautifully, ventilation system excellent. Most importantly, my wife is pleased with the comfort, and the quietness of the co pilot's seat matches the quietness of the car.

Just a quick additional note on the new style 300 models. Read a interesting blurb in Newsweek last week where the reviewer noted excellent interior quality and ride but was not impressed with the exterior styling, stated he believed it to be too plain for the money. While reviewing the car, he was rear-ended by another car doing approx 30mph. The performance of the car's "crumple zone" absorbed the impact with the damage limited to the trunk area and no intrusion into the passenger area of the car. He felt so safe and protected that he came to like the car overall.

The safety factor certainly adds to my pleasure with the car.

funny you mention this. I just saw it during today's morning commute.
Nice picture, glad it wasn't me, but made me feel good I got this car.
