Hi guys, I'm more than looking at a 2000 ES300 with 71k miles for $4,718 from JM Lexus (link below). The car is currently going through inspection and painting the front bumper (try and straighten out some dings), so haven't had the test drive yet. But had a chance to look at it and heard the engine - sounds quiet but once the a/c turned on it was alot louder, video here:
The car fax only shows registration/is useless, but the Lexus Drivers history has all the data. Last 3 years do not show anything, but based on the trajectory of miles driven (progressive decline) the miles seem legit.
The work that's been done:
12/16 - engine light and trac off was on for evap system (not clear what was done, but during full inspection)
1/14 - again check engine and trac off lights on - noted system too lean, mass air flow sensor faulty, replaced sensor
10/13 - replaced timing belt
- replaced drive belt
- coolant leak from water pump, replaced pump
- leaking from camshaft and crankshaft seals, replaced seals
- oil leak from valve cover gasket, replaced gasket and reseal end caps with plug tubes
10/11 - again check engine and trac off lights on - noted lean code due to build up on mass air flow meter, removed and cleaned
- performed fuel induction service
10/10 - check engine light, malfunction in O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1, replaced
2/10 - trans pan leaking, resealed
- check engine and vsc trac off lights on, noted sensor circuit, found B1S1 reading incorrectly, replaced
- engine splash shield came loose, installed new splash shield
12/06 - drive belt replaced
Anything else that I should be looking for?
Here's the listing, although photos not there since still in paint.

People will tell you it’s high, but as someone who has a love for the 2001 ES300, it was my first car, if it’s clean go for it. It is such a better looking car than the 2002-2006, and if you can tastefully add updates such as nav, bluetooth, and backup camera, it’s a lot more usable day to day.
for example, I added car play to my 2009 GS, and now I find myself grabbing the keys to it before my 2015 GS more, even though it’s supposed to be the “airport train station car”

Well, just got a call from the dealership that the inspection found frame damage... so it was in an accident but not reported.

If I was to buy another 3rd gen ES id probably only look for a really clean 97/98 only.
for a 99-2001 I don’t care how well it was taken care of, back of my mind would always be not if but when the transmission is going to go. So prepare for that cost if you buy one.
