98 ES300 boosted 1mzfe swap to 3vz-fe
Looking to swap my high mileage (210k) 1mzfe with a low mileage 3vzfe. Does anyone have experience of info on this? Any advice, comments, criticism 😉
Instead of rebuild of 1mzfe, thought swap to stronger, more tunable 3vzfe would be better for overall life and tunablity.
probably a full swap with ecu and tranny with the rest of the setup being transferred over to the 3vzfe.
current setup:
1mzfe S/C TRD @ 6psi
forged rods and pistons
75 shot NOS (rpm window switch)
short ram intake
Valve body upgrade (4speed auto)
bunch of other fun stuff, but not important to the build
thanks!!!!

That's a rare kit you have there will it work on the 3VZ? IMO the 1MZ is only somewhat weaker although it doesn't sound as nice as the 3VZ. Also the 3VZ revs higher, another strength of the 3VZ is the engine is nearly impervious to pinging. But you'll be doing some extensive wiring and it will make the car heavier. Why not build up another 1MZ or swap in a 2GR you'll get about the same power or more than anything with the supercharger on it.

Hello,
The engine swap will require some heavy modifications, and I don't think that 3VZ will give you any real advantage that will justify such efforts, like it is not that much stronger, it is much older, and it will require you to start from the blank page, scrapping everything that you have already. All of that to come to basically the same result.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with the 1MZ engine - it is durable, pliable, and has a lot of aftermarket parts, like you already have all the necessary parts. Just get a newer one, since, it seems like your current engine still doesn't have a VVT-i system..
About 2GR, I really doubt that it will even fit, and if it will, it will be a royal pain to work on it because of really cramped engine bay. And I am not even talking about the price of such retrofit.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Here’s part of an excellent commentary on this subject from Toyotanation.com on a thread entitled “Pros and Cons 3VZFE and 1MZFE?”
”IMO, I would choose the 1MZ-FE. More HP out of the box, digital ignition system, larger injectors from the factory, MAF-metered (no restrictive flap sensor), and of course, much more support than the 3VZ in terms of aftermarket and OEM parts. You can also supercharge the 1MZ-FE. What can you do to a 3VZ? Turbo? There is only one turbocharged 3VZ that I know of and it's all custom. I don't expect every 3VZ-FE owner out there to rig up his own turbo kit. That's not a job for an amateur.”
