Radio Reprograms itself

Radio Reprograms itself
Hey all,
I can’t complain. 18 years old and pushing 160,000 and this is my biggest problem. For about the last year, my 2nd programmed station on “fm 1” changes it self within 2-10 second from whatever it’s programmed to or tuned to manual from being ok station 2, to our local 70’s to 2000’s rock-ish station. It’s not a bad station, but there has to be a way to reset this thing... any idea? disconnecting the battery and or capacitive discharging doesn’t erase radio settings in this car
thanks

Hello,
If you want to save a specific station, you just need to locate it, and then press and hold the number button until it will beep, at least that is how it works in my 3rd-gen.
Does that answer your question?
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Of course, but no matter what I do, my car’s channel 2 on FM1 flips to and or reprograms itself to 98.9 within a few seconds. I can live with it because that’s a decent station - not my favorite but decent - but I’d like to understand what is happening

Is it only your #2 favorite that resets?
I'd take a look at the wiring diagram and see if there's a blown fuse responsible for providing power to the radio when off that holds the radio preset in memory.

It does it like while it’s on. Say I tune to 94.7 and program #2 to it. Within 30 seconds (usually) it flips to 98.9. Sometimes it just flips and no longer shows “2” other times it actually reprograms 2 to 98.9
I know this sounds crazy. I am not nuts I promise. Wired my ‘50 from scratch years ago after removing the factory wiring with tree loppers... this is just strange. Is there a way to reset the unit’s memory

Repeating speedkar9's question - does it reset only the second station or the whole head unit? Is there any "ripping" in sound while it resets?
It may be a memory module, but in that case, you will have to replace the whole head unit, since there is no fuses besides the one under the hood, and it is kind of difficult to diagnose without some special equipment...
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Thanks a million! No other issues and it sounds great. I know this sounds crazy. My wife thought I was nuts til she saw it happen like 10 times in a 20 minute ride. I more or less have given in and leave station two at the 98.9 it “wants” to be at

Interesting...............................
Getting back on track though, try setting stations for each button and see if all of them will reset. If so, you would probably need to replace the head unit. However if not, maybe your head unit is indeed possessed..
Hope this helps and best of luck!
