1995 lexus es300
I have a 1995 Lexus es300 and I would like to know what the compartment is on the dash. It's a compartment that is to the right of the steering wheel and to the left of the stereo. So it's in between the steering wheel and the stereo system. I popped the cover off and it has some electrical wires there. What is this for? After I popped the cover off and then the next time that I drove the car at about 60 mph it was acting kinda like the transmission was slipping and the engine stopped when I went to take off from a stop, it started right back up and I drove it home and parked it. I had no problems before this.

Trying to help but I don’t have a ‘95 and can’t find a picture yet of a ‘95 dash. Wouldn’t have a picture you could spare real handy, would you? Do you have the Owners Manual?
I’ll keep looking.

It’s called your Interior Ambient Air Temperature Sensor and should be left alone unless you have HVAC problems. There’s a thermistor in there that helps control and maintain cabin temperature settings.

Thermistor uses resistance to tell the computer what the temp is - I always wondered if the word comes from therm and resistor. Either way, delicate circuit because any repair to the wiring adds resistance and throws things off - my 4es outside thermistor wiring broke. Soldered as carefully as I could, but its now off by at least 3f

You're right. Thermister is a component that changes resistance as temperature changes.

Enjoy your car. They’ve become so rare here, I go weeks without seeing one. Rust has claimed them. I’m seeing rusty 5es here already. Treasure it. They’re wonderful cars. I miss mine
