Default Help with replacing the high pressure power steering line on an ES330

Looking for help with replacing the High pressure power steering line on my 2005 ES330. I’ve searched this forum and haven’t found the help I need.

I was able to remove the top two bolts from the brackets behind the engine by removing the intake manifold. I’m having trouble with removing the ends of the hose and was curious if anyone had any tips here.

The banjo bolt side that’s connected to the power steering pump (circled blue) seems like I can reach it from the passenger wheel well if I remove another power steering line and/or loosening the pulley on the v-belt to move it forward some? As for the side by the steering rack (circled red) I think I have to remove the stabilizer bar or remove the stabilizer bar mounts to move it out of the way to access the nut.

No room for any tool reach

Just wanted to see what others have done before I attempt this. I have the service manual, but it doesn’t specifically lay out the steps for removing both sides of this particular hose. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Looking at my own picture, I think I could attempt removing the steering rack side with a crow foot without having to move the stabilizer bar or subframe. Still taking suggestions tho. Thanks.

I've done this job but don't remember how exactly I did it, been awhile. Hopefully someone that has done it recently can help. My approach to any job is do what works there is no set way to do it.

I'm about to start it on my 98 ES300. Looks tight in there but not at all impossible from my driveway. I'm in a pickle and wanted help. Mine is leaking Steering Fluid but not sure the hose. Bought the hoses and now for the real work. I guess I'll just switch em out and let you know how it went. Maybe I'll do a YouTube vid

Theres a few videos on YouTube for an ES300 replacement but from watching it, the access points to the ends of the hoses is different. Good luck w it!

Hello,

Found a video about replacing this hose. Granted, it is for the RX 330, but the process should be pretty similar, since it has all the same problems.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

That's a good video. Definitely helpful. I removed my wipers and the plastic beneath the windshield initially thinking I'd need to do the same, but on the ES330 it's not needed. But similarly the intake manifold needs to be removed to get access to the top two nuts behind the bracket in addition to the large wire harness on the firewall (which he doesn't do) to give myself just a bit more room to work. Toyota really makes you work for every single one of the connections on this hose ha. Hopefully this thread is helpful to someone down the road, because this is taking me days to do

Update: I was able to remove the hose end on the steering rack side using a 22mm Crows foot and 20" extension from the passenger side wheel well. Connected it to my impact and was able to break it loose. I then went under the car and used the crows foot and a small extension and ratchet wrench and was able to work it free. I lost light before I was able to finish but I think I should have the other side out with no issues as there's some room to work it from the passenger wheel well.

Good to hear. This is one of the more annoying jobs but not as bad as replacing the entire pump.

Is it that bad to replace the PS pump? I am asking because mine is leaking a bit, so I thought about rebuilding it.. I have a 2000 Lexus ES300, and it seems like there is plenty of room in the passenger side wheel well if you remove the covering. Or is it only applicable for ES330?

Thanks for the answer!
