Question 17 or 18's Lowering vs. Comfort???

I want to put rims on my car I currently have the chrome stock 15's.

I really like the SC430 stock 18's. If I do put 18's on how much will they effect the ride? Also if I get lowering springs with the 18's will my car become too harsh?
Speed odometer readings are they the same 15,16,17,and 18??

If possible what wheel spring Shock/strut/coilover combination offers the safest best handling and most luxurious ride?

Thanks in advance.

The whole geometry of tire size and spring height was figured out by the Lexus designers when they built this car, so I would say that this combination would give you the best ride and handling characteristics. If you decide to change the tire & rim size than make sure that the circumference is close to the stock size otherwise your speedometer/odometer will no longer be accurate.

for tire size equivalancies, go to www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc and/or view suggestions for "plus sizing" at www.tirerack.com For 17" on a 92-01 ES, 215/50-R17 is a real good bet. Quite close to stock outside diameter, and no rubbing if you've got a proper offset on the new rim. This is the size I run, although to be honest I don't know the offset of my Mille Miglia rims, I ordered them from Tire Rack and had them shipped directly to a local "authorized installer"

Like squarehat has mentioned, plus sizing is the preferred method when upgrading your tires and wheels. The benefits of plus sizing are twofold: ensures no rubbing, and maintains the accuracy of your speedometer and odometer. If you haven't checked, Tire Rack has an excellent article discussing plus sizing.
